Rei Ayanami
Rei Ayanami, a 14 years old Eva-00 Prototype pilot, is a very quiet girl. She was trained for piloting since the early stage of EVA development. She almost never smiles, and speaks very rarely. She has a difficulty to express her emotions and feelings, or as Ritsuko said, "she is not very good at living". Her past is a mystery, almost nobody know it. The only one who know her well is Gendou Ikari, father of Shinji Ikari. This man takes care of her as if she is his own daughter. She is referred as the "First Children".
